For many, traveling the world is a dream filled with picture-perfect scenes. However, there’s a reality that travel blogs rarely mention: how complex—and sometimes lonely—it can be to explore the globe without mastering other languages, especially English. People often ask me how I manage to navigate so seamlessly between cultures. The answer lies not only in my passport, but in the languages that inhabit my mind.
Many people know that I’m proudly Polish, but my journey with languages began far from my hometown. As a teenager, life took me to the United States. It was there, caught between a sense of wonder and the need to fit in, that I learned to master English.
But my curiosity didn’t stop there. At 17, I decided to take on a new challenge: learning Spanish. Today, that linguistic triangle (Polish, English, and Spanish) is what allows me to be the woman, mother, and professional that I am. Of course, it’s not easy, but it is possible.
Traveling without English is like trying to watch a black-and-white movie when the rest of the world is watching it in color. I’ve seen brilliant travelers feel out of place at an international airport, or miss out on incredible culinary experiences simply because they couldn’t ask a simple question.
English has become the “universal bridge.” It’s not about forgetting our roots, but about building a path toward those of others.
For me, speaking English has been the difference between being a spectator and being a protagonist in my own adventures:
Sometimes the fear of what others might say or of making grammatical mistakes holds us back. But let me tell you something: languages aren’t about being perfect—they’re about being brave. Learning a new language is like gaining a new pair of eyes to see the world. If you dream of traveling, growing professionally, or simply connecting beyond your borders, I invite you to take that first step. It doesn’t matter if you start today with just a word or a phrase; what matters is that you don’t let silence limit your horizons.
Dare to learn! The world is waiting for you and wants to hear from you.
